Welcome to Otter and Elm Mental Health Counseling! I'm Emily Breedlove (they/she), a clinical mental health counselor in Austin, Texas. I've lived here for more than 21 years and have been in the helping professions since 2004.

I approach therapy as a partnership between experts: my client as the expert on themself and me as a continuing learner about mental health. My approach is trauma-centered, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and disability affirming

I am passionate about offering people many different options to help them on their mental health journeys, because a single lens doesn't always bring life's complexities into focus. In addition to talk therapy, I work with expressive arts therapy and somatic therapy to meet my clients where they are.

I see clients in my cozy north Austin office as well as via teletherapy throughout Texas.

About the Therapist

About Expressive Arts and Somatic Therapies

Expressive Arts Therapy

Any form of expression and/or creativity can be used in or as therapy. Whether as a way to understand feelings that escape words or as a soothing practice, creating and experiencing image, movement, sound, and story can be a part of your healing journey.

Somatic Therapy

The mind and the body are inseparable. Relief from emotional turmoil can arise from understanding the language of the nervous system.  Somatic therapy helps you learn how to understand your nervous system and use it to increase your sense of safety and wellness.

You deserve understanding, affirmation, and ease. In the therapeutic relationship, you will receive these and learn how to find them within. Take a step toward your Self; contact us today.
